FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In what languages are translation and interpreting services offered?
ALSI offers services in more than 150 languages and dialects. We can meet almost any language requirement with our extensive network of translators and interpreters. Please, contact us to discuss your specific needs.

How can I be certain that the translation will be accurate?
ALSI utilizes a unique, four-part quality control system that ensures translations will be technically accurate and culturally appropriate. After the initial translation is complete, a second translator reviews both the original and translated text. The document is then processed by a quality assurance specialist to ensure that every aspect from spelling to formatting meets our high standards. Before returning a completed translation to the client, a project manager personally reviews and approves the document.

How long will it take for translation of my document to be completed?
We are committed to working with our clients to meet deadline requirements. Our standard turn-around for most documents of 10,000 words or less is 5 to 7 business days. Technical documents require additional time. We can provide rush services; however, translation quality is our primary concern. All translated documents go through a multi-step editing and quality review process before being returned to the client.

Does ALSI provide certified translations?
Upon request, we can provide notarized certification on ALSI letterhead, attesting that the translation is a true, accurate, and correct rendering of the original document. These certifications are accepted by government agencies, including the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS), and judicial courts. All of our translations undergo rigorous quality control regardless of certification.

How much notice does ALSI need to provide an interpreter?
To ensure the availability of an interpreter with the precise background and experience that your assignment requires, you should contract well in advance of your assignment. We are usually able to comply with last minute requests, but interpreters especially for simultaneous assignments may be booked weeks or even months in advance.

What is the difference between consecutive and simultaneous interpreting and which type do I need?
A consecutive interpreter provides a subsequent oral translation of a speakers statement while the speaker pauses. The interpreter may interject after several sentences or after a single word. A simultaneous interpreter provides constant translation as the speaker talks. Often, simultaneous interpreters use interpreting equipment and work from soundproof booths. Simultaneous interpreting is generally appropriate for large meetings and high-level conferences. Our project managers will work with you to determine how best to meet your interpreting needs
